Student Expectations in the Classroom |
Expectativas del estudiante en la clase |
ELECTRONIC DEVICES: All cell phones in the pocket chart. If a student does not have or bring a cell phone to class, he/she must put a "No phone" pink card in the pocket chart. Students who keep their phones in their bags, pockets, or anywhere in their vicinity will have their phones confiscated and sent to the office for parent pick-up. Students are welcome to charge their phones in my classroom at the charging station up front. In that case, a student will put a "Charging Phone" green card in his/her pocket chart. When using a personal laptop, the screen must be visible to the teacher at all times. Leave school computers plugged in.
DAMAGED SCHOOL EQUIPMENT: Any accidental or noticed damage to laptops, iPads, or other electronic equipment must be reported immediately. If not reported, you could be liable for the replacement of that electronic equipment. You will be liable for the replacement of electronic equipment that is damaged due to roughness or other inappropriate usage/handing. ATTENDANCE: Students are required to be at every class. Any student who misses more than 9 classes per semester must pass the mid-term (first semester) or final exam (second semester) in order to be eligible to receive credit for each class. Students who have more than 4 unexcused absences will not be eligible for any extra credit offered. PREPAREDNESS: Students are to come to class prepared, which means bringing a pen or pencil, paper, planner, homework (if assigned) and any other assigned materials. No locker passes will be given. LANGUAGE: Students are expected to use appropriate language in the classroom. Cussing and swearing is not permitted. ON TASK: Students are required to stay on task for the duration of the class period. This includes paying attention during class. PROFESSIONALISM: Students should facilitate a professional working environment. This means that feet remain on the floor (not chairs/tables), heads are up, and everyone is working toward the learning goal of the day. RESPONSIBILITY: Students are responsible for their own grade. Absent students need to check the absent student website. ABSENT WORK: Students are responsible for turning in all work when they are absent at the next class for previously assigned work and within two days for work assigned on the day of the absence. (See absent work policy by clicking on "Absent Work" on your left.) LATE WORK: No late work will be accepted, except assignments submitted with a late work pass. In that event, you may turn in the assignment up to one week after the due date for full credit. MAKE-UP TESTS: Students are responsible for coordinating with the teacher to make up tests and quizzes in the event of an excused absence. The test must be taken on the day the student returns. BATHROOM/HALL PASSES: Students will be given two restroom passes for emergencies per quarter. If a student retains one or both of those passes, he/she will receive extra credit at the end of the quarter. EFFORT: Students are expected to do their best in class with the goals of passing the FSA Reading/Writing (if they haven't), receiving a good grade in English, learning a broader vocabulary, improving their grammar, and enhancing their reading and writing skills. FOOD/BEVERAGES: Students are not allowed to bring food to eat in the classroom or any beverage other than water. Water must be kept on the countertop opposite of the computers. GRADES: Students are expected to earn a grade of “C” or higher in this course. A lower grade could jeopardize a student's overall GPA and possible scholarships. Since students are required to pass English 1-4, failure will make students ineligible for graduation. VOCABULARY BOOKS: Students who lose their vocabulary books must purchase a new one. Vocabulary tests will be every other Friday. NO TEST RETAKES Ms. Susa does not allow test retakes unless it it specified by a guidance counselor in an accommodations sheet. GRADE ALTERATIONS FROM QUARTER TO QUARTER Ms. Susa does not alter grades from the previous quarter unless there is a mistake in the grade. The end of each quarter is the end of each quarter, and all students are expected to move on and do their best in the current quarter. All other guidelines in the Student Handbook apply. See below for the entire handbook. |
